Lake Mission Viejo Fun Facts…
There are many little known fun facts about Lake Mission Viejo …
Lake Mission Viejo – Long enough to float three ocean liners the size of the Queen Mary placed end to end.
That’s a pretty big deal because I got married on The Queen Mary and happen to know that it’s 1019.5 feet long or about 1/3 the length of Lake Mission Viejo.
The lake officially opened on June 3, 1978 with a surface area of 124 acres and the deepest part of the lake is about 70 feet. Lake Mission Viejo is one of the few man-made lakes that’s clean enough for both swimming and fishing.
The lake is continually monitored to assure that the high quality of water is maintained and any problems are dealt with immediately. Old tires and broken concrete were placed at the bottom of the lake to create artificial reefs for fish.
The lake is regularly stocked with trout, while bass, catfish, sunfish and bluegill are generally able to maintain their own numbers. Lake Mission Viejo recently stocked Tilapia, which tend to be attracted to big juicy night crawlers.
Here’s a couple more fun facts about Lake Mission Viejo located in Orange County, California.
Lake Mission Viejo – A 124 acre lake that holds 1.2 billion gallons of water.
I know what you’re thinking… That’s a lot of water, especially during severe draught conditions. But it is a “Private Lake” which is funded by the members.
When rain is scarce, the cost of keeping the lake full becomes a “Member Expense”. Although, membership (if qualified by residency) is only $18.50 per month.
Lake Mission Viejo – Where you can take a scenic, one hour walk along a 3.1 mile trail.
My wife and I have completed The Lake Walk many times and have made the following observations…
It actually takes us about 56-58 minutes to walk the lake, without making a speed walker type of effort, no jogging and no running.
Although you’re walking around the lake, the lake is not always visible and there is usually traffic noise during the entire walk. There are also a few traffic lights which may or may not be green when you get there.
If you’re walking at night, go in the direction of the traffic. It helps avoid annoying headlights coming at you.
As a community resident for over 25 years, I’ve enjoyed the many benefits of being a member of the lake and always recommend the city as a highly desirable place to live.
